WHITE STAG LEGEND
In ancient times The Grim White Stag was the herald of Erastil, the god of the hunt, family, and farming. He appears as an enormous pale-white stag standing over 30 feet at his withers, with living branches for antlers and green vines around his legs.

There is rumor that this rare great white stag roamed the green forests through the whispering pines and hills of the northern woods. Elusive and ghost-like, he would stand upon a rocky outcrop crowned against the dark blue sky. So desired, yet ever out of reach, the stag would lead the hunt onwards, ever on - pushing men to find their destiny ordained by God. The wild hunt calls and many have grown from the pursuit.

In Baden Powell's speech to the Boy Scouts, he described the legend of the White Stag as carrying a mythical connotation over the ages. He told the scouts that great hunters of old pursued this elusive stag, not to kill it - but because the hunt lead them in the joy of the chase, to new and fresh adventures and so to capture happiness.

Renewal

To American Indians, the deer represents the great spirit – a sign of the sun as it’s antlers spread like the rays of the sun. The shedding and regrowth of the antlers represent regeneration, cycles, growth and renewal. The sensitivity of the deer – alert, keen and always aware translates these qualities into being spiritually aware. White animals are the sign of prophecy and a sign from the great spirit that a major shift in the world is to come.

Usually, white animals were seen during soul-quests, or vision-quests. However, if one was seen during the normal course of day, this would cause a tremendous ripple among the tribe. A meeting would be called, the elders would be consulted, and great care would be taken to communicate with the animal spirits to determine the meaning of the message.

When white occurs in the animal realm it is a message of:
• Higher thoughts & ideals
• Purity of soul
• Cleansing of spirit
• Attaining higher knowledge

Compound these attributes with the those of the Female deer:
• Benevolence, kindness, creativity, spirituality, connectedness and renewal

Male deer hold the same, but also include attributes of:
• Longevity, virility, abundance and endurance
